My goal as your president is to make sure we continue to promote that welcoming environment amongst everyone in the student body. I’m Lexi Punishill and I’m hoping to get your vote for first year class president. Now, please join me in giving a warm welcome to our stellar senior class president, who has done so much for our class this year, Tori Williams! This breath, however shallow it may be, inspires a hunger for the heavenly, a thirst for the transcendent, and a recognition of our incompleteness and ignorance. I love watching movies, hanging out with my friends, traveling, and trying out new foods. I studied abroad in Milan during the spring semester of my junior year and had the time of my life traveling around Europe.
What You Need to Know About the Soon-to-be-Launched Data Science Major
Vote for a president who will continue to make CMC the best place to be! We have already established ourselves as the most cohesive class that CMC has seen to date, and it is my desire as President to keep it that way. I have loved getting to know all of you through our Zooms and I want to keep that attitude and excitement going. I want to make sure that everyone feels at home at CMC.
I’m from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and I’m dual majoring in International Relations and French with a Leadership Studies Sequence. When—not if—we see each other on campus, please please please come say hi! I was born and raised in Colorado (a ridiculously underrated state), and I grew up hiking and camping in the Rocky Mountain backcountry. I stay informed about what events are going on and what lovely organization opportunities there are.
On campus, I am involved with the Black Women’s Collective, Scholar Community, and recently started the Claremont Cybersecurity Club. I try to embody hacker culture in everything that I do by finding really creative ways to accomplish different objectives and iterating until the objective is accomplished. You can generally find me at Heggblade – either at the tables on the first floor or hanging out upstairs at CARE. I’m cmc markets review originally from Harare, Zimbabwe. I’m Tendai — I’m in the BAMA program and also pursuing a Sequence in Data Science.
U.S. Foreign Policy Outlook After the 2024 Election
In my free time, I love to thrift, listen to music, read, and gab for hours with my friends. In my free time, I love playing any kind of sport (especially cornhole, pickleball, and volleyball), dominating board games (Settlers of Catan), or doing anything involving the outdoors. One of the things I love most about CMC is the many wonderful opportunities and the sense of community. I am from Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi, studying Environmental Analysis on the Science track with a sequence in Asian American Studies.
- I love dancing bachata, listening to the handpan, solving crosswords, playing spikeball, and taking polar swims.
- In the capstone, teams of four students engage in a data-analysis project for organizations in the public and private sectors.
- I will advocate for all underserved and disadvantaged students.
- If working and middle class voters cannot afford groceries, they certainly cannot afford to be single issue voters for social justice.
- Having graduated high school in China, I’m acutely aware of the importance of bridging cultural and social gaps, and existing alongside each other as full humans.
- “Perhaps racism and sexism played a role for some voters,” our professor responded.
Introducing the 2025-26 RAs!
If there’s a class-wide event you want to see happen, I’ll make sure it happens. Outside of these random facts, why should you vote for me to be your first-year Class President? I haven’t declared a major yet but I am thinking of PPE (Philosophy, Politics, and Economics), PPA (Philosophy and Public Affairs), International Relations or some combination of those subjects. As of now, I spend my day (when I’m not doing work) cooking, making bracelets, listening to Philosophize This, and scrolling through TikTok (probably my favorite thing to do). The impacts of a pandemic turned our lives upside down and tragic events called for us to re-examine America as we know it. But I can promise that I can help lead that effort, day in and day out, to forge the kind of class WE want to see.

Feel free to email me at or dm me at @theosiasat on Instagram. I will advocate for all underserved and disadvantaged students. And now, I’m running to be your first-year class president. I’m not going to promise a dramatic transformation of our class experience. I justified my fear with the fact that I’m not American, and subsequently that the Class of 2024 wouldn’t buy into the leadership of a sub-saharan African student.
- We have already established ourselves as the most cohesive class that CMC has seen to date, and it is my desire as President to keep it that way.
- I’m an economics-accounting major, but in my free time, I love spending time outdoors, reading books, and playing or watching various sports.
- On campus, I am part of the Claremont Consulting Group and Claremont Accounting Association.
- My name is Prateek and I am so excited to be one of your Crown Hall RAs!
- You’re imperfect, and you always will be, on this side of paradise.
- On campus, I’m involved in APAM and the president of the Alexander Hamilton Society; I’ve worked for the Keck Center as well.
“The capstone is unique in the sense that it offers students a taste of working with an external client on a real-world program and soft skills, such as proper presentation, in addition to analysis skills,” said Batta in an exclusive interview with the Forum. In the capstone, teams of four students engage in a data-analysis project for organizations in the public and private sectors. In 2018, George Roberts ‘66 P’93 donated $25 million to expand data science education and computing education. To fulfill the capstone requirement, the major would also require students to participate in a clinic in addition to completing a thesis. The committee, which consists of professors from various departments, has proposed a 12 course major with classes in math, statistics, probability, computer science, and ethics. I think if it had been the first round, I would’ve voted for someone else and maybe wouldn’t have even ranked Mamdani and would’ve had other people who were more centrist, liberal types.
Class of 2024: First-Year Class President Candidate Statements
I also enjoy playing intramural dodgeball, watching baseball (Go Dodgers!), playing video games (most are made by a small indie company called Riot), and eating most of my meals at Collins. When I’m not grinding on schoolwork, I love to play pickleball, swim, and work out. I’m a PPE & Legal Studies major. I’m so excited to plan fun events together to help our community thrive. My door is always open, and I’m always available to talk about anything. I love dancing bachata, listening to the handpan, solving crosswords, playing spikeball, and taking polar swims.
Bill Kristol Says He Would Vote For Zohran Mamdani for New York City Mayor
They seemed to think that whoever was daring enough to challenge their opinions only disagreed because they were racist and misogynistic, too. These classmates halted our productive discussion, made the class feel uncomfortable, and made me feel alienated. Later in the discussion, another classmate specifically accused me of condoning racism and misogyny because I went to an election watch party for Republican interns.
I am an international student from England so community is really important to me! ” was a common sentiment from students, many of whom are planning to work in government agencies, the foreign service, or IR-related fields, and were disheartened by what Trump’s win means for U.S. foreign policy. Indeed, in answering student questions, many of the professors noted that several of Trump’s policies will be influenced by the people he surrounds himself with in his cabinet and executive agencies. Many students and faculty expressed concern that U.S. alliances will increasingly depend on personal relations with Trump and what other countries can offer, rather than longer-term U.S. strategic considerations. “It’s not a ‘perhaps,’” they decisively rebutted, “America hates women so much, they’d rather have a rapist as the president than a woman of color.” A tense, uncomfortable silence fell over the class. I believe that Donald Trump lacks the character to be president and that his victory will severely harm America’s civic culture and international reputation.
I fell in love with the environment and felt instantly at home. I knew I wanted to attend CMC from the second I set foot on campus. In a remote setting, it can be challenging to get to know your peers.
I’ve loved getting to know you all through classes, group chats, and Zoom calls, and so I’d love to represent you all as your first year Class President. If you’re having issues handling hardships this pandemic brings and being a full-time student, I’ll be there to help you gain access to whatever support you need. The main reason I think I’m the best candidate is that I’ll be a representative of the class just as much as I’ll be a president of the class. I’m from Syosset, New York, I love animal crackers and cake, I have a dog named Shadow, and I work at Starbucks. My initiatives are meant to build and advocate for a more environmentally and socially sustainable campus community as well as to be the person you can rely on to act as your voice.
I am so happy to be at CMC and I want to guarantee that everyone feels the same way. We will continue to have more class zooms within CMC but also as a 5C community. Whether it is virtual events (synchronous and asynchronous) or hopefully physical in the spring, as your president I will make sure that this class stays as strong and tight-knit as possible. We as a class have already had engaging and reflective conversations, and I want to not only continue having those discussions within our class, but to promote those open and productive conversations to members of the student body and faculty.
I truly love giving back to the community that has shaped so much of my early young adult life and hope to be both a guide and a friend to incoming and returning students here on campus. Looking ahead, the Office of Consortial Academic Collaboration is also planning to add a data science major at the other Claremont Colleges, according to Uvin. In terms of the differences between the data science major and sequence, Uvin believes that “the major is heavy on math, statistics, and probability. Due to increasing student demand and the use of data analysis in different fields, CMC plans to implement a new data science major by the fall of 2020 or 2021. If you have any questions about my platform or just want to talk, feel free to reach out to me at or through my Instagram (@michael.gadinis)!
You’re imperfect, and you always will be, on this side of paradise. Graduates, the world you enter is a wonderful place, but it has its dangers. But without the strange correspondence between our minds and reality, none of this research would be possible. Just think for a second about how miraculous that is. We’re not just stuck wallowing in ignorance.
I’m an Economics and Finance major with a sequence in Data Science here at CMC. On campus, I’m involved in APAM and the president of the Alexander Hamilton Society; I’ve worked for the Keck Center as well. I care a lot that you feel included in the CMC community and hope that Valach feels like home to you.
In my free time, I like dancing and scrapbooking, and my favorite place to study on campus is Heggblade (shoutout amazing DOS staff!). I was a FYG my sophomore year, which encouraged me to apply to be an RA, so I could continue building community and being a mentor on campus. I am dual majoring in Economics and Mathematics with a Data Science sequence and am also involved with Graphite Group and the Claremont Accounting Association. In my free time, I love listening to music, watching slime videos on Instagram, or taking ill-timed 0.5x photos of my best buds. I love hosting and meeting new people so feel free to stop by! I am so excited to meet so many new people during my time as an RA, and hopefully make some really fun Appleby traditions!
